Had a potluck over at Rossy's last night with the Chinese and Malaysian international students. But it was more like they made all of the delicious food and we just kind of showed up with a plate of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that looked very out of place next to everything else. It wasn't intended to be, but for me it was kind of an Easter-eve dinner since this is the first Easter I won't be spending with my family. It was nice to sit down and eat good food with lots of people, accompanied by laughing of course.
Later that evening we hung out with Fahd and argued about various things like whether aluminum or aluminium is the correct spelling/pronounciation. Mostly he was the one proving us wrong, further proof that I do not belong on a debate team.
Word Origin: Latin alumen: alum, an astringent and dyeing mordant
Note on Naming: Sir Humphry Davy proposed the name aluminum for the metal, however, the name aluminium was adopted to conform with the "ium" ending of most elements. This spelling is in use in most countries. Aluminium was also the spelling in the U.S. until 1925, when the American Chemical Society officially decided to use the name aluminum instead.
