SPAKL Part 2 (What Really Happened May 17-19)

Okay, I was going to use my free time today to write about Melbourne, but then I thought no no no, let's finish what we started in Auckland...because I never posted photos of how much fun we had that weekend!

If you want to read a more serious blog about the speakers at the ACTUAL conference, click here.

---one detail I missed the first time writing this blog post: I got car-sick on the drive up to Auckland.  I've never been carsick like this before.  Ever.  It was a combination of the windy roads and already having a cold.  It was not cool, I felt like I was going to die.  I didn't throw up though!  They had me sit in the front seat because I guess that is better for car sickness.  But to be honest, I can't say it helped much, especially since I'm used to the passenger seat being the driver's seat.  So the whole first half of the car ride felt like forrrreeeeever.  After stopping for lunch I felt a lot better.---

That evening we went out and celebrated not having to be in class for two days.  And I was happy to get out of the van.  Woo!  Found a nice bar, got ourselves some discounts (mostly thanks to Sinead because she has a way with words) and also a couple bowls of free chips.  By the end of the evening we were out on the dance floor singing/dancing to Call Me Maybe...which is apparently a song that is all the rage now.  It might have been mostly me dancing...but I know Christina was out there with me for awhile, and I know we got some strangers to dance too!  (I miss show choir!)

*Photos with a star weren't taken by me.  I got them from the transfer drive at school...I think Charlie took them?

Tiger...malaysian beer
*Beth & I
Liz & Hun
Hun, Anant, Me, and Christina.  Ahahaha I love this photo.

*Something I like about cities...lots of street performers playing good musics.

Friday morning rolled out of bed at 9am so we could get our tickets and goody bags at the conference.

Semi-Permanent tickets!
Semi-Permanent speaker booklet
Semi-Permanent speaker list

Here's some photos of a few speakers so you can see what the venue was like.  It was nice because they the speaker projected onto a screen in case you were sitting far away, and also their work was projected too.

*Benja Harney speaking at the conference

After Benja Harney was done speaking he had the audience make paper airplanes and throw them all around the auditorium, it was pretty cool.  I tried to take a video of it.  You might want to skip ahead in it a little bit to see.

*Kelli Anderson speaking...
*Ron English speaking...
And here's a very poor quality video of Ron English talking to Mr. Host guy.

*Chillin' at the hotel.  And me being my usual attractive self.

Hun had us try some curry puffs.  They were pretty good.
Saturday night the conference ended around 6:30pm.  Went back to the hotel to pretty ourselves up and get ready for the after party.  Had the lady at the front desk of the hotel take a couple group photos of us.
Group photo.  Or as Liz says, "The world's future design team."

Having fun at the after party!

Here's a video I took of our dance circle...woo!

Sinead and the boys: Anant, Hun,  Max, and Dylan
Charlie,  Jackie, Me, and Sinead
Sinead, Beth, Liz, Max (hahahah), and Hun.
That about sums it up!  Will continue into Australia for next post. :)
